About this Episode

How does a homeschooling family find hope and help in the face of disaster? Zan welcomes her dear friend Tracy Klicka, Director of Development at HSLDA. Together, they explore the crucial topic of disaster relief for homeschoolers, sparked by the recent devastation of Hurricane Helene. Tracy shares her personal journey of homeschooling through hardship and loss, offering encouragement from Scripture. Zan and Tracy discuss HSLDA’s Compassion Program which has provided millions of dollars in aid to homeschool families facing various challenges. They offer practical advice on how affected families can seek assistance and how others can contribute. And finally they urge us to remember that even in the darkest times, God remains a very present help in times of trouble.

Meet My Guest

Tracy Klicka, the widow of former HSLDA senior counsel Christopher Klicka, is a homeschool mom of seven, now adult children, and Mimi to seven grandchildren. As a seasoned homeschooler and gifted writer and speaker for nearly 30 years, Tracy has addressed thousands of parents at homeschool conventions and women’s events, has written dozens of articles, and has contributed to her late husband’s books on homeschooling.

Since 2011, Tracy has been thankful to serve as Director of Development for HSLDA (hslda.org), the nation’s largest homeschooling advocacy organization for more than 40 years. Out of many personal hardships, but with joy in God who is good all the time, Tracy loves serving and encouraging homeschooling families.

At BJU Press Homeschool, we’re committed to providing children an education from a biblical worldview that is academically sound and challenges them to advance, think critically, and live like Christ. This type of education is not often possible in public schools because of the number of children taught in a classroom, a difference in worldview, and peer and societal pressure to conform. Homeschooling allows parents to instruct and disciple their children without daily fighting messages from an opposing worldview taught in the classroom. And with tuition costs and fees for private schooling or tutoring, homeschooling may be the only option for parents who are concerned for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
