About this Episode

What if the pressure your child feels isn’t a sign to push harder but a nudge toward a different path? Zan Tyler and Rachel Kovac reflect on the early moments that led Rachel to homeschooling, from overwhelming workloads to a quiet loss of joy in learning. Together, they explore how homeschooling can restore curiosity, connection, and peace in family life with children of all ages. You don’t have to follow the crowd. There is freedom to choose what helps your child truly thrive.

Meet My Guest

Rachel Kovac brings a fresh and much-needed voice to the homeschooling community, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities of the often-overlooked high school years.

As a writer, speaker, and educator, Rachel understands the uncertainty many parents feel when deciding whether to homeschool through high school. She empowers her readers with vision, practical guidance, and encouragement drawn from years of experience homeschooling her own children through high school, and guiding them into college with scholarships. She helps families approach academics, college admissions, and alternative pathways with confidence, while nurturing a home life rooted in connection, purpose, and love.

Rachel lives in Texas with her husband and four of their six children, as their eldest two are away attending college. When she’s not writing or homeschooling, she finds joy in photography, sewing, gardening, baking sourdough, and learning Italian.

At BJU Press Homeschool, we’re committed to providing children an education from a biblical worldview that is academically sound and challenges them to advance, think critically, and live like Christ. This type of education is not often possible in public schools because of the number of children taught in a classroom, a difference in worldview, and peer and societal pressure to conform. Homeschooling allows parents to instruct and disciple their children without daily fighting messages from an opposing worldview taught in the classroom. And with tuition costs and fees for private schooling or tutoring, homeschooling may be the only option for parents who are concerned for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
