About this Episode
Does attending a homeschool convention really help? In today’s unique episode, Zan interviews two guests back to back. Nancy Manos has served as the director for a state homeschool convention and a national homeschool conference. She and Zan discuss why gathering with thousands of like-minded families transforms the homeschool experience. Zan then introduces Kristin Christianson, a second-generation homeschooling mom from North Dakota, whose first convention changed her life by eliminating her fears and letting her know she is not alone. The conversation highlights allowing children to learn at their own pace despite outside pressures and celebrates cherished books that span generations.
Nancy Manos is a graduated homeschool mom of two. The homeschool convention has been a wonderful source of inspiration, encouragement, and practical help since Nancy started homeschooling in the mid-90s. Nancy is part of the Zan Tyler Podcast team, helping with social media, show notes, Zan’s website, and more.
Meet My Guest

Kristin Christianson and her husband live in North Dakota where they homeschool their three children. Kristin was homeschooled until 7th grade, when she entered public school due to her parent’s divorce. She could not figure out why she spent eight hours in school and still had homework each day. In homeschool, her work took just a few hours each day.
Kristin has two associate’s degrees, one in pharmacy and the other in health science. She worked as a pharmacy technician in a local pharmacy for six years until God called her to be a stay-at-home mother and eventually homeschool.
Bees, horses, cats, and a wood furnace keep the Christiansons busy year-round. November 2024 Kristin’s husband was elected to ND State House of Representatives. Their children were his campaign managers and they helped in every aspect of door knocking and handing out flyers. They have sat on the house floor, learning about government and how it works.
The Christiansons use BJU with their children and they love the BJU characters, stories, vibrant colors, and fun illustrations. God made her children in His perfect image. No matter what obstacles they will face in life, Kristin knows that God has given them, and her, the courage to get through it all and live for Christ.

Podcast Sponsor
At BJU Press Homeschool, we’re committed to providing children an education from a biblical worldview that is academically sound and challenges them to advance, think critically, and live like Christ. This type of education is not often possible in public schools because of the number of children taught in a classroom, a difference in worldview, and peer and societal pressure to conform. Homeschooling allows parents to instruct and disciple their children without daily fighting messages from an opposing worldview taught in the classroom. And with tuition costs and fees for private schooling or tutoring, homeschooling may be the only option for parents who are concerned for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
