Meet My Guest

Amy Harrell Smith is a homeschooling mom of four wonderful, energetic kids. She and her husband, Tim, took the plunge into homeschooling almost on a whim when their first child was 4 years old. They decided to give it a try for a year, but they never looked back! Convinced of the academic advantages homeschooling offers, Tim and Amy remained committed to continuing their homeschool with each of their three sons. All four children are now thriving, both academically and otherwise.

Amy is passionate about helping parents learn how to succeed in homeschooling, so she launched WiserHomeschool.com in 2023 to offer resources and products to help make the way smoother for other families. Tim and Amy are committed to raising their children on a foundation of faith based on the Bible. As a pastor’s kid raised in church, Amy developed a love for Jesus and the Word of God at a young age. She served 18 years in a staff ministry position as a worship leader and occasional public speaker, and she loves helping others connect with God in a personal, meaningful way.

Amy holds a degree in Communication from Lee University. She has authored three books available on Amazon: Maddie, Beloved, a Christian novel; The Softer Side of Single, guidance for single, Christian women; and a companion study guide for the latter. Besides writing, Amy loves cooking (when she has time to be creative with it), cake decorating, coffee, and Christmas. Tim and Amy reside in Virginia and enjoy taking their family on as many adventures as they can to destinations both near and far.

Podcast Sponsor

At BJU Press Homeschool, we’re committed to providing children an education from a biblical worldview that is academically sound and challenges them to advance, think critically, and live like Christ. This type of education is not often possible in public schools because of the number of children taught in a classroom, a difference in worldview, and peer and societal pressure to conform. Homeschooling allows parents to instruct and disciple their children without daily fighting messages from an opposing worldview taught in the classroom. And with tuition costs and fees for private schooling or tutoring, homeschooling may be the only option for parents who are concerned for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
