About this Episode

When Lucinda, Tammy Wood’s 5-year-old daughter, heard a medical doctor who had visited orphanages in China and saw the pictures he shared of the children there, she declared to her mom, “You must go to China and get those children!” Lucinda enlisted her older sister to pray with her, and eight years later the Woods adopted their first daughter from China. They adopted four more Asian children during the course of the next several years. Join Zan and Tammy for this inspiring conversation about the Wood family’s adoption story, their homeschooling journey, and the amazing faithfulness of God.

Meet My Guest

Tammy Wood homeschooled her seven children for a total of thirty years. She and husband Bill have two biological daughters and five adopted children –two from China and three from Taiwan. Their story of international adoption—including a sibling group of three—is a story of God’s goodness, faithfulness, and sovereignty. Tammy has her masters degree in library science, and Bill is an attorney and serves on the board of the South Carolina Association of Independent Home Schools. Tammy started a support group for homeschooling families in her area and continues to mentor moms. She also serves in various capacities in her local church, including teaching Bible studies.

Podcast Sponsor

At BJU Press Homeschool, we’re committed to providing children an education from a biblical worldview that is academically sound and challenges them to advance, think critically, and live like Christ. This type of education is not often possible in public schools because of the number of children taught in a classroom, a difference in worldview, and peer and societal pressure to conform. Homeschooling allows parents to instruct and disciple their children without daily fighting messages from an opposing worldview taught in the classroom. And with tuition costs and fees for private schooling or tutoring, homeschooling may be the only option for parents who are concerned for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
